Installation precautions for Volvo generators

- Installation Location:
Volvo diesel generator sets require an installation environment that facilitates ventilation and exhaust, and provides sufficient operating space for future maintenance and repairs.
- Installation Foundation:
If installed on a hard surface with sufficient load-bearing capacity, a foundation platform is not necessary. Volvo diesel generator sets utilize high-efficiency vibration damping devices, so the foundation does not require vibration isolation treatment. If a foundation platform is needed, please refer to the “Installation Technical Manual” for dimensions. Additionally, no anchor bolts need to be pre-installed in the foundation platform.
- Cooling System:
Volvo generator sets use a closed-loop cooling water circulation system. Good ventilation is required, and the air intake and exhaust vents must be arranged reasonably to avoid warm air recirculation. The area must meet the minimum clearance requirements.
- Fuel Supply System:
Volvo generator sets require a separate fuel tank (base tank or independent tank). The height difference between the fuel tank and the generator set must meet the requirements, and the dimensions of the fuel supply and return pipes must also meet the requirements. An oil-water separator is recommended when using poor quality fuel.
- Exhaust System:
Volvo diesel generator sets are equipped with an industrial-grade muffler, with a noise level of approximately 80-90 dB(A). Adding a soundproof enclosure, super soundproof enclosure, or trailer-mounted soundproof enclosure can reduce the noise to 70-80 dB(A). Professional soundproofing treatment in a dedicated generator room can reduce the noise to 60 dB(A).
- Cable Connection:
For Volvo diesel generator sets below 500kW, the circuit breaker uses a molded case circuit breaker, suspended on one side of the generator.
For Volvo diesel generator sets above 500kW, the circuit breaker uses a frame-type and floor-standing cabinet, installed on the base.
Cable connections must be neat and securely fixed, and treated for waterproofing and leakage prevention. Flexible connections should be used when connecting cables.
